Vanessa Louise Dunback, 57, Wamego, KS passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Wamego City Hospital.
On August 8, 1958, Vanessa was born to Raymond and Alice (Heble) Sramek in Burlington, CO. Vanessa was the seventh of thirteen children. Vanessa graduated from LaCrosse High School in LaCrosse, KS and attended Brown Macke Business College where she received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Court Reporting. Vanessa recently retired after 33 years of service as a district court reporter for the counties of Jackson, Jefferson, Pottawatomie, and Wabaunsee. She was united in marriage with Kean Dunback on September 20, 1980 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salina, KS. Kean survives of the home.
Vanessa loved watching her children in sporting events as they grew up. She also enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, and going to K-State football games and tailgating. Vanessa was a member of the Wamego Booster Club, St. Bernard Catholic Church, and the Kansas Court Reporting Association.
Vanessa is also survived by her two sons: Craig Dunback, Wamego, KS, and Josh Dunback (Stephanie), Wichita, KS; six brothers: Marshall Sramek, Overland Park, KS, Kerwin Sramek, LaCrosse, KS, Rodney Sramek (Paula), LaCrosse, KS, Joe Sramek (Tammi), LaCrosse, KS, David Sramek (Lisa), Wichita, KS, and Raymond Sramek (Amy), Wamego, KS; six sisters: Melinda Adib (Ali), Tempe, AZ, Sarah Duffy (Mike), Salina, KS, Sheila Smith (Dan), Hutchinson, KS, Nyla Smith, Independence, KS, Jill Postier (Brent), Wichita, KS, and Michelle Basgall (Steve), Augusta, KS; fifteen nephews and eleven nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Troy Smith.
Mass of Christian Burial for Vanessa will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, KS. Interment will follow the service at 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Township Cemetery near Republic, KS. Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society and Wamego Community Foundation, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
