View Memorial Slideshow Roger Gene William, 83, St. George, KS passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society – Valley Vista in Wamego. On July 16, 1932, Roger was born to George and Sadie (Scott) William in rural St. George, KS and was one of thirteen children. He attended schools in Pottawatomie Co. and graduated from St. George High School. He was united in marriage with Donna Tessendorf on March 4, 1956 in Wamego. She survives of the home. After graduating high school, Roger enlisted in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He would go on to work for Moorman Feed Company and the Kansas State University Maintenance Department and was a carpenter for many years. Roger was a member of the First United Methodist Church of St. George and was the past Commander of the Black Jack American Legion Post 260 of St. George. He is also survived by two sons: Scott William, St. George, KS, and Michael (Teresa) William, Manhattan, KS; three sisters: Betty Mallon, Manhattan, KS, Rose Mathieu, Florida, and Lois Gerry, Topeka, KS; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Teresa Bestvater; six brothers: Edgar, Gerald, Ray, Francis, Willard, and Warren; and three sisters: Pauline Dinger, Lena Harms, and Grace Prescott. Memorial Service for Roger will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Inurnment will follow at the St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the funeral home. The family has suggested memorials to Roger William Memorial Fund, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
