In her youth, Mary marched in the John F. Kennedy inauguration as a member of the All American High School Band, with which, she also toured Europe. While on a scholarship in central Arkansas, Mary studied as a music major and served as secretary to the band master. After college, Mary went on to become a music teacher with the Wynne, Arkansas school district. She also held a lifetime teaching certificate from Missouri. Mary and Jerry fell in love and were married on December 27, 1980 in Wynne, Arkansas and began to live the military nomad lifestyle shortly thereafter. Their marriage has always been a source of inspiration to those around them and their dedication and commitment to one another is unmatched. After working for the Inspector General at the Pentagon, Mary became an instructor at the Army’s Inspector General’s School in Virginia. The family moved to Kansas in 1989, and shortly thereafter, Mary began her career with Pawnee Mental Health in Manhattan. She proudly served the community and organization for the next 25 years in various roles. She began her work as a consultant to the agengy for the purchase of Pawnee’s first intra-agency computer system and finishing her career as one of the directors on the management team. She will be forever missed by the many whose lives were touched through her dedication at Pawnee. Mary received a Master’s degree at Kansas State University in 2006 while working tirelessly on a major project at work. Her ability to juggle multiple projects, including home and family life was second to none and it will take many people to effectively handle the amount of work Mary accomplished regularly. Mary was known to have an incredible memory of important dates and events, and this was further evidence that her every thought tended to be about those around her. Birthdays, anniversaries, and significant other events were never forgotten by Mary, even as she was in the hospital recovering from surgery. Her positive influence, ability to maintain peace in stressful situations, amazing sense of humor and her general loving influence on her environment will be forever missed by those who knew her.
