View Memorial Slideshow William H. “Bill” Hoffman, 84, of Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016 at Stormont-Vail Health Care of Topeka, following a short illness. Bill was born June 20, 1932, in Kansas City, KS, the only child of Howard and Bessie (Lewis) Hoffman. He attended Vance Elementary School and graduated from Washington high School in 1950. He attended Kansas City Community College and then graduated from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in 1955. Following graduation he worked for Crown Drug in Fort Scott, KS before working for Merck, Sharp and Dome as a pharmaceutical drug representative. While working as a drug rep, he met his future wife, Trudie Foltz at College Drug in Manhattan. They were married December 20, 1958 and spent over 57 wonderful years together. He later worked for Katz Drug in Manhattan before buying his own pharmacy. He and Trudie owned and operated Hoffman Pharmacy in Westmoreland from 1968 to June 2016. Bill really enjoyed visiting with his customers while sitting at the drug store fountain. He was a life long KU Jayhawk fan and had season football tickets for over 50 years. He was a longtime member of the Methodist Church, Westy Service Club, and the Westy Chamber of Commerce. He was also very involved in starting the Westy Community Care Home and served on the board of directors for many years. Most importantly, he especially loved spending time with his family. Bill is survived by his wife Trudie, of the home; his six children: Jean Bramwell (Jon), Kay Tomasu (Robert), Mary Hoffman, Nancy Vanderpool (Troy), Skip Hoffman (Angela), and Keith Hoffman (Kate); 15 grandchildren: Kevin Tomasu (Laurissa), Melissa Burdick (Wes), Taryn Schuknecht (Greg), Lisa Tomasu, Jacob and Amanda Morgan, Megan Vanderpool, Raeann Bramwell, Luke Hoffman, Madison Vanderpool, Nick, Mark, Brett, Drew, and Laura Hoffman. He was the kindest and most generous person you will ever meet, and he made everyone around him feel special. We will miss him so very much. Bill’s wishes were to donate his remains to the University of Kansas School of Medicine Willed body program. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11th at the Westmoreland United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends during a light luncheon and visitation following the service.
