John “Jack” Dover was born January 6, 1926 to Isaac and Ida (Schlegal) Dover in rural Irving, KS. Jack attended schools in northern Riley County and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1943. Jack served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He graduated from Kansas State in 1950 with a degree in applied Geology.
Jack was employed by the Federal Government for 35 years, working on several civil and military projects. In 1984, Jack completed his career as the Chief of Levee Design for the Omaha District Corps of Engineers.
On April 8, 1961, Jack married Mardella Downing Taylor in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jack adopted Bobby and Joy Taylor in1962. The family made their home in Omaha, NE until Jack’s retirement. In 1986, Jack and Mardella moved to Wamego, KS. Jack was a member of the American Legion Harold Johnson Post No. 172 of Wamego, RODEO (Retired Omaha District/Division Employees Organization), American Diabetes Association, K-State Alumni Association and the Wamego Area Senior Citizens.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Ida Dover, his wife, Mardella, his sister, Violet Herrmann Sedlacek, and son, Bobby. Jack is survived by his daughter Joy Kusler (Nolan), granddaughter, Taylor Kusler, grandson, Connor Kusler, and great-granddaughter, Kinsley Kusler.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 19th, at Stewart Funeral Home at 10:30 AM followed by a luncheon at the United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Frankfort City Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
