Bernard Leo Swoyer 80 of Wamego, Kansas passed away surrounded by family Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Via Christi in Manhattan, Kansas.
Bernard was born at home on June 29th, 1936 in Glasco, Kansas to Leo and Margaret (Watkins) Swoyer. He graduated from Glasco High School and went on to get dual degrees from Kansas State University in Agriculture and Crop Science. He served from 1954 to 1956 in the United States Air Force and went on to be an Air Traffic Controller for 20 years. He went back to farming and managed a large farming operation until he retired. He loved spending time with his family and could easily be talked into playing cards with friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Catherine “Sue” (Hudson) Swoyer, daughters Donna Swoyer of Arlington, Texas; Randy and Karen (Swoyer) Rader of Johnstown, Colorado; sons Steve and Debbie Swoyer of Wamego, Kansas, and Douglas and Amy Swoyer of Decatur, Texas. Eight grandchildren; Ryan and Hope Rader, Eric and Danielle Rader, Alex Rader, Bradley and Joanna Swoyer, Brett and Laura Swoyer, Lucas Swoyer, Joshua Swoyer, Nicholas Swoyer and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Glenn and Loueen Swoyer, Donald and June Swoyer and sisters Barbara (Swoyer) and Gilbert Keiter, Donald and Mary (Swoyer) Landoll.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 13th, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Flush, KS. Visitation will be Monday, September 12, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a rosary taking place at 8:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
