Dale Edward Dixon

March 11, 1932 — November 5, 2016

Dale Dixon, 84, died on November 5th, 2016. He lived in Mission Viejo, CA.  Dale grew up in Kansas. He was born in, and lived his early years in Westmoreland. His family later moved to Topeka, where he graduated from Highland Park High School. Dale attended Kansas University and joined Sigma Nu fraternity. He earned undergraduate and law degrees from Washburn University. He then served in the Air Force as an attorney, and was stationed at Dover Air Force Base. Dale returned to Kansas where he was City Attorney for Atchison.  He next moved to Topeka, where he practiced law, initially working for the State of Kansas, then transitioning into private practice. He moved to Silver City, NM where he lived for two decades, owning and operating the Murray Hotel. He later moved to Orange County, CA where he lived the rest of his life. Dale was married to Velma Barngrover Dixon, who passed away in 2009.  He is survived by three children, Marsha Monica of Leawood, KS, Brian Dixon of Englewood, CO and Jeff Dixon of Mission Viejo, CA. He also had seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  His parents were Joseph and Clara Ward Dixon.  He had five siblings, and is survived by two, sister Eunice Penner and brother Don Dixon.  Brothers Louis and Roger and sister Geneva Waters proceeded him in death.  Dale cherished his family, and was very knowledgeable regarding the Dixon and Ward family trees. Dale had many interests including reading, fishing, taking long walks and memory games. He loved reciting limericks and had a story for any occasion.  A life-long learner, he led Dale Carnegie training courses across Kansas, and truly enjoyed his interaction with participants.  Dale was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed following the Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team. He will be buried in Wamego, KS, next to his beloved parents, on November 18th, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, November 19th in the Firestone Chapel at Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224. Dale was a kind, generous man, who always made time to help and encourage others. He will be missed.
