Royal "Keith" Smith

January 2, 1928 — November 29, 2016

Royal “Keith” Smith, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Private memorial services will be held at a later date in Wamego.     Keith loved the outdoors and enjoyed coon hunting and fishing. He was a KSU Wildcats fan, loved Western novels and movies, and enjoyed taking trips to Branson to see live music performances. Keith had a playful sense of humor and had a mischievous glint in his eye even in his last days. He worked for 35 years as a union iron worker and even after retirement, he adopted various jobs as a driver, retail clerk and custodian at KSU to keep busy. Keith was married to Pearletta (Habluetzel) for more than 66 years and built a strong family they saw regularly.     Keith is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Zena Smith, brother Harold Vincent Smith, sister Grace Laverne Vaughn, and grandson Joshua Yenzer.     He is survived by his wife Pearletta Smith; daughters Sandi Deines, Sue Yenzer and husband Gary, and Shari Liming and husband William; grandchildren Megan Deines, Gary W. Yenzer, Lani Deines, Amanda Yenzer, Gregg Yenzer, Kate Taylor and husband Dustin, Austin Liming and wife Madeline, Amy Yenzer, Sara Liming, and Cody Liming; and great-grandchildren Alyssa Boatwright, Aidan Taylor, Jaykob Yenzer, Emma Yenzer and Payton Yenzer. He is also survived by sister Verna Jewell Goodman.     The family would like to thank the staff at Via Christi Hospital and Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan for their special care.  Private graveside services will take place at the Wamego City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in Keith’s honor to Stepping Stones Child Advocacy Center, the Riley County Humane Society or to TRU Community Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.  Condolences may be left online at stewartfuneralhomes.com
