View Memorial Slideshow Dennis “Denny” Eugene Dekat, 86, of Flush, Kansas, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital of Manhattan. He was born in Flush, Kansas on June 18, 1930, the son of Eugene L. and Genevieve M. (Prockish) Dekat. Denny attended grade school and high school at Flush, graduating in the class of 1948. In October of 1951, Denny along with his brother Carrol Dekat and close friends Delbert Ebert, David Lenherr, and Jim Eichman, all enlisted together to serve their country in the Korean War. Following his service in the Air Force, Denny returned home to work on the family farm. He farmed and ranched his entire life, and worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for over 47 years until retiring in 1994. On August 14, 1965, Denny married Mary Ellen King. She preceded him in death in April of 1999. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush, a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus of St. Joseph Church, and was active in St. Joseph Church Senior Citizens Organization. For many years, he was also active in 4-H. He loved farming, and was very passionate about his family farm and homestead, living there all of his life. His church and faith were very important to him. He enjoyed many church activities, including singing in the church choir for many years. He enjoyed time with his family, especially at Easter time, and sharing the fruits of his family farm together with them. His survivors include two children: Drue Campbell (Mitch) of Topeka, KS, Matthew Dekat of Flush, KS; two brothers: Carrol Dekat (Carleen) of Moore, OK, Damian Dekat (Rae) of Silver Lake, KS; two sisters: Mary Ann Potter (Robert) of Topeka, KS, Rita Kay Mailen (Edward) of Topeka, KS; a brother-in-law, Delbert Ebert, of Flush, KS; four grandchildren: Bryce, Tyler, Madyson, and Gabriel, along with numerous nieces , nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ebert and a brother, Loran Dekat. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 10th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Denny will lie in-state beginning at 1:00p.m., Friday at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. and a visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph’s Church Playground Fund, for the purchase of new playground equipment and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
