Ireta (Buchanan) DeLapp, 94, of Westmorelan, died Monday August 3, 2009, at Westmoreland Community Care Home.
Ireta was born on August 10, 1914 to Ola and Moyne Siddens. When Ireta was 7 days old, her parents died so she and her sisters were raised by her grandparents Lute and Viola Siddens. Ireta attended grade school at the District 77 Church School and she later graduated with the class of 1933. She joined the United Methodist Church when she was 15 and has been a member of the United Methodist Women for several years. She was married to Ellis Buchanan on April 2, 1933. To this union, three sons were born. Billy Ray, Robert Lee and Richard Wayne. She was a homemaker until her youngest son enlisted with the Navy. She worked for ten years as the high school cook. She and Ellis celebrated 50 years together before he passed away on September 18, 1983. Ireta later met and married Robert DeLapp. Robert also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: her sons, Billy Ray Buchanan of Lexington, SC, Robert Lee Buchanan and wife Jean of Wamego, KS, and Richard Wayne Buchanan of Kansas City, MO; her four grandchildren, Karla Ascenico and husband Gino of San Diego, CA, Brent Buchanan and wife Lynn of Lexington, SC, Alan Buchanan and wife Cathy of Manhattan, KS and Anita Sleigh of Bloomsburg, PA; her seven great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Ian Sleigh, Eric, Allison, Conner and Zachary Buchanan and William Brimer.
Funeral services will be Saturday August 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Westmoreland United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Stewart Funeral Chapel in Westmoreland.
