View Memorial Slideshow Dolores Ann Holz, age 81, passed away at home on December 30, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Dolores was born February 11, 1935 at home in Wabaunsee County, Belvue, Kansas, the oldest of three children born to Wilmond Breymeyer and Clara Pageler. Dolores graduated from Wamego High school in 1953. During high school she worked for Wilford Vilven at the Harmony Gardens, Warner’s Café, and babysat. Dolores married Clyde William Holz of Belvue, Kansas on October 10, 1954 at the Evangelical Reform Church (now Immanuel Faith Community Church Wells Creek), Belvue, Kansas. For 25 years, they lived on a farm south of Belvue. In 1979, they moved about one mile east to a farm and they lived there for 15 years. In 1994, they moved to St Marys, Kansas. Six children were born to this marriage: Deborah, Brenda, Cheryl, Larry, Steven, and Janell. Dolores sewed many dresses for her daughters, her mother, and herself. Her hobbies were working with her flowers, canning foods, mowing grass, playing cards and dominoes, doing Search-A-Word puzzles, sewing lap robes, embroidering, attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, and being with her family. She was very proud that she had an Amish Friendship Bread Starter for over 13 years. She was an avid Kansas City Royals fan and her favorite player was Salvador Perez. Dolores was a member of the Immanuel Faith Community Church Wells Creek and was the first woman to serve as a board member, serving three different terms. She sang in the choir, served as the Dorcas Circle President for many years, helped start the monthly birthday/anniversary cookie Sunday, and was one of the first to help start and serve on the annual Sausage Supper Committee. Dolores belonged to the Wells Creek Community Card Club, Kaw Social Club, St Marys Kaw Valley FCE, and Literary Club, member of the Columbian Theater, Council of Churches, Bank of the Flint Hills Legacy Program, Kaw Valley Bank Heritage Club, and Wamego Senior Center. She was involved with the Wamego Christmas Bureau and helped with the first Sampler in Wamego in 2014. Dolores was involved in and a lifetime FFA member of the Wamego Alumni. In 1986, she received the Honorary Chapter Farmer’s Award for Wamego. In 1988, she received the Kansas FFA Alumni Outstanding Member Award, and from 1988-1997, she received the Legion of Merit Citation Award. Dolores worked for USD 320 Wamego as a bus driver for 33 years; 19 years as Central’s custodian (between her bus routes); and 13 years as a part-time summer custodian. In May 2000, she retired from USD 320. Other places of employment included Katie’s Corner, Perry’s Café, Rezac’s Café (St Marys, Kansas), The Coffee Shop, Whistle Stop, and Friendly Cooker (Wamego, Kansas). Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, November 4, 2006; a son, Larry Holz, October 10 2012, and her parents. Dolores is survived by daughters, Deborah Eichem (Jerry), Paxico, Ks, Brenda Wurtz, St Marys, Ks, Cheryl Holz, Topeka, Ks, Janell Hurla (Rick), Paxico, Ks, son, Steven Holz (Teresa), Belvue, Ks, and daughter-in-law, Elsie Holz, Dodge City, Ks; grandchildren, Nick Wurtz (Kasey), Lucinda Kelsey (Dustin), Ethan, Shelby, and Bryan Holz; Dallas, Levi, and Nathan Holz; Janece, Jayna, Romie, Ridge, Jasmine, Reece, and Jacie Hurla; great-grandchildren, Aston and Kaiya Kelsey, and Zahvanna Wurtz; two brothers, Kenneth Breymeyer (Jackie) and Marvin Breymeyer (Joyce), both of Topeka, Ks; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Dolores will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Immanuel Faith Community Church - Wells Creek. Interment in the Wells Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Dolores will lie in-state on Wednesday starting at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Immanuel Faith Community Church - Wells Creek or the Wamego Senior Center, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
