Loretta Bernice Harrison

  Loretta “Bernice” Harrison, 94, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away January 1, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society-Valley Vista.   Bernice was born March 24, 1922 in rural Pottawatomie County near Wamego, one of 11 children of Thomas and Regina (Umscheid) Downey. She attended Wamego schools and graduated in the class of 1940 of Wamego High School. She married Robert S. Harrison. He preceded her in death.   She was a homemaker, raising children and taking care of her household before beginning to work out of the house. In 1960, she started work as the hostess at Nickerson Farms on I-70 for 8 years, then began working at McCall Pattern Company of Manhattan until her retirement in 1992. Bernice enjoyed working in her yard, time with the family and especially her grandkids.   Her survivors include, four sons: Ron Harrison (Frieda), Delbert Harrison (Cheryl) all of Manhattan, KS, Bruce Harrison (Lisa), Kenny Harrison all of Topeka, KS; one brother, Richard Downey of Topeka, KS; eight grandchildren: Rob, Robert, Patricia, Stacy, Kevin, Shane, Kendra, Bryce; and her great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bob and a daughter, Patti Ebert.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego. A Rosary will be recited at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. just prior to the funeral service. The family will greet friends during a luncheon at the church immediately following the burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Homecare and Hospice of Manhattan, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547, Wamego, KS.
