Dr. L.V. Borgendale

Dr. L.V. “Lew” Borgendale, M.D., 87, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Wamego Health Center.   Lew was born October 28, 1929 in Watson, Minnesota, the son of Herbert and Minnie Angrimson Borgendale. He grew up near Wichita, KS, in Planeview (a town established and in existence only during WWII). He graduated from Planeview High School in 1946 and started college at Friends University in Wichita before enlisting into the Air Force, serving from 1952 to 1955. Following his military service he returned to Friends University and completed college. In 1960, Lew graduated from the Kansas University School of Medicine and started his internship at St. Francis Hospital of Wichita before moving to Wamego in 1963 to join a family practice medical clinic with Dr. Braden and Dr. Clark. He worked for 46 years in Wamego as a family physician and served as the Pottawatomie County Coroner for many years.  Lew married Rosalie “Rosie” Schroeder on August 10, 1952 in Newton, KS. She preceded him in death in May of 2008.   He was a longtime member of Wamego Lions Club, American Association of Family Practitioners, served on the Advisory Board of Good Samaritan Valley Vista, was the recipient of the Wamego Citizen of the Year in 2003, sang in the Tuttle-Aires Barber Shop Quartet, and played the saxophone in a dance band for a couple of years.  He enjoyed flying his airplane, watching KU sports of which he was an avid fan, visiting his relatives from Minnesota, was always reading a book and studying medical journals staying up on the trends. His patients and work were very important to him, devoting most of his time to them.   His survivors include two sons: Jerry Borgendale of Wamego, KS, Kevin Borgendale (Lourdes) of Austin, TX; one daughter, Patty Vishnefske (Mark) of Mulvane, KS; a son in-law, Rick Hill of Manhattan, KS; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by a son, Lew Borgendale, Jr.; a daughter, Carol Hill; and his sister, Gloria Cook.   Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church of Wamego. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.  Dr. Borgendale will lie in-state at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29th, where family will greet friends at a visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society-Valley Vista, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
