Lawrence Alfred Buatte, Jr.

  Lawrence Alfred Buatte, Jr., Manhattan, KS, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in Manhattan.    On May 12, 1925, Lawrence was born to Lawrence and Helen Buatte, Sr. in Wamego, KS.  He graduated from Wamego High School in 1943 and attended a technical college in Indiana for radio and television repair.  Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and worked in Washington D.C. where he met his wife, Mary Frances Lewis.  They were united in marriage on December 3, 1945.  Mary preceded him in death on June 1, 2016.   Lawrence was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan.  He loved to go fishing and enjoyed gardening vegetables.  Lawrence was also known to make delicious wine.   He is survived by a son-in-law: Clancy Filbert, Easton, KS; two grandchildren: Kevin Prince (Grace) and Rebecca Lamb, both of Franklinville, NC; five great-grandchildren: Olivia, Corey, Kristen, Laci and Reese; and one brother: Ben Buatte.   He is also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, and a daughter, Karen Filbert.   Funeral Service for Lawrence will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2017 at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in Wamego City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O Box 48, 66547.
