View Memorial Slideshow Sheila Lea Burke, 68, of Wamego, KS passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Wamego City Hospital. On March 1, 1949, Sheila was born to Dale and Valdimer (Domeny) Bairow in Manhattan, KS. Sheila attended grade school in Laclede, KS and graduated from Wamego High School in 1967. After graduating from Kansas State University, Sheila was united in marriage with Michael Stephen Burke on August 1, 1971 at the First Baptist Church in Manhattan. She worked at Farm Bureau for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mom who was actively involved in all aspects of her children’s lives. Sheila was a very active member within the community. In her younger years, she was a part of the Tannerville 4-H Club and while at K-State the Alpha of Clovia 4-H Leadership House. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wamego where she helped teach Sunday School, led Youth Groups, and played piano for Sunday services. Sheila served as a Cub Scout leader and was a proud parent of two Eagle Scouts. Besides playing piano, she enjoyed sewing and cooking. She had a huge heart and made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She is survived by her two sons: Todd Burke and David Burke (Katie), both of Wamego, KS; a brother: Thomas Bairow, Wamego, KS; a sister: Sharon Riffey (Don), Wamego, KS; her aunt and uncle: Rocky and Ruby Zeller, Topeka, KS; and three grandchildren: Aaron Burke, Kayla Burke, and Brendan Shoemaker. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral Service for Sheila will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. Sheila will lie in-state Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Wamego and the Sheila Burke Memorial Fund, which may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
