Hilda G. Kuhn, 98, Cedar Park, TX passed from this world on October 17, 2009. She was born December 26, 1910 in Belvue, Kansas, the daughter of William Henry and Katie Del Brown Bowman. In 1929 Hilda graduated from Louisville High School and earned a Kansas Normal-Training Teacher’s Certificate. She taught for a brief period in rural Pottawatomie County.
She married John E. Kuhn on June 6, 1931 in Westmoreland, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 22, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters Jessie Kuhn and Gladys Marten.
After raising her sons, “Jack” and “Jim”, Hilda returned to working at the Wamego Grade School in the cafeteria for many years before her retirement. Her recipes from those days continue to be enjoyed by her family.
She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wamego and the Rebekah Lodge #232. She enjoyed participating in activities at the Wamego Senior Citizens Center. From 1985-2002 she lived in Midland, Texas, near Jim’s family and took special pride in serving the “old folks” at the Midland Senior Citizen Center. In 2002 she moved to the Texas Hill Country, resembling the rolling hills of Eastern Kansas, where she humored many caregivers with her wit and wisdom.
Survivors include two sons, John E. Kuhn and wife Margo of Banning, California and James R. Kuhn and wife Lorine of Kingsland, Texas; three granddaughters, Linda Young and husband Brent of Riverside, California, Jennifer Kinman and husband Kyle, Cedar Park, Texas and Jodi Kuhn and fiancée Philip Denton of Austin, Texas; four great grandsons Brennan, Cameron (fiancée Christina Ortiz) and Nathan Young, Riverside, California and Peyton Kinman, Cedar Park, Texas.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday October 22nd at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with burial following in Wamego City Cemetery. The family will greet friends at a visitation Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established in Hilda’s name for the Wamego Senior Citizen’s Center and contributions may be left in care of the funeral home, P.O.
