Terry L. Newman, 49, of Westmoreland passed away unexpectedly Friday November 20, 2009 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
Terry was born January 28, 1960 in Joplin, Missouri the son of Jack and Carol (Stapp) Newman. He graduated from Independence High School in 1978. He then proudly served his country with the United States Army for two years. After his discharge, he entered trucking school and soon after was working for JB Hunt and later Dr. Pepper. He then worked for Flotec, a chemical company, laying pipelines around the world. He had most recently worked for Pottawatomie County as an equipment operator for the last three years.
On November 20, 2004 Terry married the love of his life, Michelle Vos in Westmoreland, Kansas. He was a devoted husband, father and a Christian man. He helped anyone in need and never turned away from those who needed assistance. He and Michelle would spend time together camping, fishing and appreciating God’s great creation. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and loved anything Harley. He adored his children and proudly attended all of his son’s sporting events.
His survivors include: his wife Michelle Newman of Westmoreland, KS; his son, Austin Newman of Westmoreland, KS; his daughter Angela Newman of Houston, TX; his mother, Carol Stapp of Westmoreland, KS; his brothers Jim Newman of Westmoreland, KS and Mike Hare of Circleville, KS; Terry was preceded in death by his father Jack.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday November 25th, at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Cremation will then be effected and inurnment will be held at a later date. Terry will lie in state at the funeral home Tuesday November 24th beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the family will greet friends at a visitation that evening from 6-8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established in Terry’s name for the Manhattan Homeless Shelter, as Terry was always giving to those in need.
