Fred Eugene Johnson, 54, formerly of Wamego, passed away Friday November 27, 2009 in Manhattan, Kansas.
Fred was born February 20, 1955 in Wamego, Kansas the son of Johnie and Alma (Salzer) Johnson. He graduated from Wamego High School in 1973 and later attended and graduated from The University of Kansas in 1995. In February 1978 he married Tanya E. Hubbel. The couple later divorced. Fred volunteered as an alcohol abuse counselor for several years and was most recently volunteering at Mercy Regional Health Center. He had a fondness for music, good movies, KU sports and traveling when he could.
He is survived by: his son, Jeff Johnson and wife Jennifer of Springhill, KS; his brothers, James “Jim” Johnson and wife Linda of Paris, TX, and Donald Johnson and wife Donna of Wamego, KS; his sisters Linda “Janie” Edwards and husband Ed of Kansas City, KS and Jodi Niehoff and husband Chad of St. Louis, MO. Fred was preceded in death by his father Johnie, his mother Alma and his brother Richard Johnson.
Graveside services will be held Monday December 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Wamego City Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego Sunday December 6th from 2-4:00 p.m. A memorial has been established in Fred’s name for Alcoholics Anonymous of Manhattan and contributions may be left in care of the funeral home P.O.
