Thomas Rex Foltz, 62, of rural Wamego, Kansas, passed away at his home Saturday, December 26, 2009 following a short illness.
Tom was born January 21, 1947 in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Rex B. and Florence Marie (Eagan) Foltz. He attended Wamego schools and graduated from Wamego High School in 1965. He also attended Emporia State University for two years before returning to help run his family’s farm south of Wamego. On June 6, 1981, he married Anne Glynn in Wamego. They later divorced.
Tom was the founding member of a very popular band, the Pott County Pork and Bean Band. He was a member of the Musicians Local, the Wamego Pool League, a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity while at E.S.U., and was inducted to the Kansas Music Hall of Fame. He enjoyed his music and sharing it with others, playing pool with friends, gardening, camping, and being with his family and children.
Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Foltz of Olathe, KS; two sons, Ben and Cy Foltz both of Wamego; a brother, Dan Foltz and his wife Linda of Sioux Falls, SD; a step-brother, Larry Berner and his wife Donna of Council Grove, KS; and a step-sister, Beverly Nelson and her husband Ron of Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. There is no visitation planned. Friends may pay respects after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Heart of America Hospice and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O.
