Lorna Eugena Campbell, 89, lifetime resident of Wamego, passed away Thursday January 7th, 2010.
Born on February 28, 1920 in the Pleasant Run Community of Pottawatomie County, she was the daughter of Lester R. and Effie (Woodcock) Campbell. She attended and graduated from Manhattan High School. Lorna worked as a babysitter for many years prior to working as a clerk at the Wamego Duckwalls Variety store for 41 years until her retirement in 1990. She raised her niece, Cindy, and her nephew, Terry, after their mother passed away when they were young children.
She was a member of the Wamego Senior Center, the Kansas Women’s Bowling Association, an avid bingo player and quilter, and enjoyed bowling with her friends and in leagues for many years. She will long be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness shown to her many friends and family.
Her survivors include: her niece Cindy Nihart and her husband Doug of Wamego, KS; her nephew, Terry Seematter and his wife Janet of Manhattan, KS; two great-nieces April Nihart of Wamego, KS, Caitlin Seematter of Manhattan, KS; two great-nephews, Luke Nihart of St.George, KS and Christopher Seematter of Manhattan, KS, along with other numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Lester Campbell and her nine sisters, Louella Carr, Florence Furse, Verva Campbell, Ferne Stewart, Clarabell Lemarr, Aileen Pearcy, Delta Seematter, Julia Blasing Adams, and a baby sister, Joy Jean who died at the age of 3.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday January 11th at Stewart Funeral Home with burial following in Jenkins-Admantha Cemetery. Pastor Jol Klein will officiate. The family will greet friends at a visitation Sunday January 10th from 2-4:00 p.m. She will lie in state beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. A memorial has been established in Lorna’s name for the Wamego Senior Center and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
