Judith "Judy" Elaine Manly

June 16, 1947 — March 15, 2010

Judith “Judy” Elaine (Connes) Manly, 62, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Monday, March 15, 2010, after her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Judy passed into the next life at home surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born in Independence, Kansas on June 16, 1947 to Revs. Eugene Raymond and Alta Elizabeth Connes. She married Cecil Manly in Chanute, Kansas on September 1, 1963. He survives of the home. Following their marriage, they lived in Chanute until 1975. In 1977 they moved to Wamego for Cecil’s work at Jeffrey Energy Center. After Cecil’s retirement in 2002, they sold their home that they had built together, bought an RV, and became Winter Texans. In 2008 they bought a house in Wamego for the summers. Judy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends both old and new. She also liked to sew, read, quilt, attend garage sales and auctions. She especially loved decorating her home and RV for the holidays. In Texas she was active in Texas Grandmas, in which she volunteered her time and talents to make baby quilts for the women and children of the WIC program. Judy spent many years in her calling – helping to take care for the needs of the elderly, as well as friends and neighbors. Survivors also include her daughter Nancy Treu and Tom Baker of Kansas City, MO; her son Allan Manly and Suzanne of Wamego; two sisters, Teri Logan and Robert of Neodesha, KS, and Cheri Scheeringa and Dean Pace of Neodesha; her brother Mike McGee and Joyce of Richland Hills, TX; and four grandchildren: Monica Manly, Jameson Treu, Marshall Manly and Alanna Treu. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ronnie Harell. Services will be held at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, on Thursday, March 18 at 11:00 a.m., with burial following at Wamego City Cemetery. Mrs. Manly will lie in-state beginning at 9:00 a.m. Thursday until service time. Memorials are suggested to Community Health Ministry or Trinity Baptist Church, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
