Lorraine C. Markey, 78, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center of Wamego.
She was born October 5, 1931 in Macedonia, Iowa, the daughter of Charles D. and Ellna Marie (Williams) Achenbaugh. She attended elementary and high school in Macedonia. She moved to Wamego from Clay Center in 1999, to be closer to her children and their families. Lorraine married Ross K. Markey on November 22, 1951 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1968.
Lorraine was a very active member of her church, First Church of the Nazarene of Manhattan, and the Salina Rescue Mission. She enjoyed her flower gardens, crafting, serving her church, taking care of pets, baby-sitting, being a caregiver for shut-ins, spending time with her two sons and their children, family and friends. She also contributed many times as a sponsor for trips to the Sioux Reservation.
She is survived by her two sons and their families, Russ Markey and his wife Karen, of Salina, Kansas, Lyle Markey and his wife Kay, of Wamego, Kansas; two granddaughters Amber and Amanda; three sisters, Irene Ulmer, Joan Peterson, Virginia Nicoski; and one brother, James Achenbaugh. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Daniel and Iva Shook, and one brother, Paul Achenbaugh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will be in Wamego City Cemetery. Lorraine will lie in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8th at the funeral home, with a visitation from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Salina Rescue Mission or the First Church of the Nazarene of Manhattan, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O.
