Bernard Leroy Strifler, Sr., 84, of Westmoreland, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010 at Mercy Regional Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.
Mr. Strifler was born in rural Pottawatomie County near Blaine on July 27, 1925 the son of John Henry Strifler and Sarah Ann (Burton) Strifler. He was a lifetime resident of the area attending Marymount rural grade schools and graduating from Fostoria High School in 1943.
He married Florence Annabeth Eversmeier on May 22, 1947 at Westmoreland. She survives of the home.
He worked at the Westy Farmer’s Co-Op for thirty-two years, serving as the manager for many years. He also drove the fuel truck until his retirement in 1988. Bernard enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved to be with his grandkids. He enjoyed working in the yard including mowing the grass and built a large landscape pond in his yard with his wife, Annabeth. He traveled with his wife to many places in the United States and Europe.
Bernard was preceded in death by his brothers: Howard, Jack, Dale and Orville, one sister, Fernie and a son, Zane, who died in infancy.
Mr. Strifler is survived by one daughter, Sara Strifler and her husband, Randy Lawrence, Manhattan; one son, Roy Strifler and his wife, Deborah, Manhattan; three brothers, Dan Strifler and his wife, Doris, Wamego, Rex Strifler, Salina, Lyle Strifler and his wife, Patsy, Dallas, TX; one sister, Lorenna Burton, Frankfort, KS.; two half brothers, Pat and Mike Strifler, both of Kansas City; three half sisters: Marla Blackburn, Kansas City, Sandy Ruggles and Connie Poston, both of Manhattan; six grandchildren, Troy and Shaun Strifler, Kyle and Kevin Lawrence, Jason Hall, Tiffany Kear; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Strifler will be Wednesday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial will follow in the Westmoreland City Cemetery. He will lie in-state after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 with the family receiving friends for a visitation from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
