Topeka- Susan Ruth (Mitchell) Kirby, 62, formerly of Wamego, passed away Friday May 7, 2010 in Topeka, Kansas. Susan was born September 24, 1947 in Grand Island, Nebraska the daughter of Francis M. Mitchell and Beatrice (McCreary) Mitchell. She graduated high school in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1973 her and her husband James Kirby moved to Wamego. He preceded her in death in 1973. Susan was a homemaker and also worked at the Lincoln Tavern and American Legion both in Wamego. In 1990 Susan moved to Topeka, Kansas and met her long-time companion of 20 years, Lloyd Canfield, who passed away in February of 2010. Susan loved being outdoors, going camping, fishing, and traveling. She also enjoyed music, cooking and her dogs. Most importantly, Susan enjoyed her family, friends, and company. Susan is survived by: her daughter, Melissa Jensen, of Onaga, Kansas; one granddaughter, Kryshala Kirby, of Onaga, Kansas; one grandson, Joel Dozier, of Topeka, Kansas; one brother Michael of Colorado; a future great-grandchild, Aaliyah, and many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a husband James, a long-time companion Lloyd, and 2 twin infant brothers, Terrance and Thomas. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Home, in Wamego. Burial will follow at Wheaton Congressional Cemetery, Wheaton, Kansas. There will be a visitation at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, Thursday, May 13, 2010, from 12:30 p.m. to service time. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Susan Kirby Memorial Fund, and contributions may be left in care of the funeral home P.O.
