Jerry Dean Brummett

Jerry Dean Brummett, 70, a longtime resident of Wamego, Kansas, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 12, 2010 following a long battle with cancer. Jerry was born December 3, 1939 in Moscow, Kansas, the son of Claude Earl and Elsie Rachel (Chance) Brummett. He attended the Moscow schools and graduated from Moscow Rural High School. On July 25, 1958, he married Joyce Clem in Hurst, Illinois. They and their children moved to Wamego in 1965. Jerry and Joyce were later divorced. Jerry started his family business, Brummett Trash Service, which served the Wamego and surrounding area. Together with his family, he owned and operated the business for over 15 years. After retiring from the business, he worked as the landfill supervisor for Pottawatomie County since 1990 until his retirement a few years ago. Jerry was a “jack of all trades” and could repair about anything. He especially enjoyed repairing old clocks, and collecting things. He could often be found visiting with his “coffee time” friends at the Kreem Kup. Jerry was a very loving father and grandfather, and continued an old family tradition of making ceramic Christmas ornaments each year for the grandkids. Jerry is survived by his children: Brian Brummett and his wife Sara, of Hanover, KS, Kelly Brummett and his wife Jeannette, Olathe, KS, Pat Brummett, Wamego, KS, Lisa Burgess and her husband Curtis, New Rockford, N.D., Amy Capoun and her husband Glen, of Alma, KS; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry (2000) and Jon (2007); one grandson; two brothers, Robert and Ronald; and two sisters, Judy and Claudette Carol. Cremation has been effected. A memorial service for Jerry will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. A visitation with family greeting friends will continue after the memorial service until 4:00 p.m. A private inurnment will be held Monday in Wamego City Cemetery. In Leiu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wamego Community Foundation-Friends of the Park, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, 66547.
