Edna M. (Brase) Litke, of Alma, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare – Topeka.
She was born May 6, 1932 in rural Wabaunsee County on the family farm, and was the daughter of Edward C. and Margaret K. (Pagler) Brase. She graduated 8th grade from Hinerville School District 15, and later completed her GED. Edna married Gerald “Wayne” Litke on June 22, 1957 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1987.
Edna was employed by the old Genn Hospital as a nurse’s aide, she then worked at Alma Manor as a CMA, before returning back to work as a EMT for Wamego City Hospital before her retirement. Edna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Alma, Kansas. She enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren and family.
She is survived by her four daughters: Laurel L. Navinsky and husband David of Washington, KS, Susan R. Billings and husband Stevan of Tecumseh, KS, Sandra K. Downs and husband George of Tonganoxie, KS, and Lisa L. Huber and husband Eric of Concordia, KS; one sister: Alice Morford and husband Art of Topeka, KS; one brother: Raymond Brase and wife Carol of Wamego, KS; 12 grandchildren: Brandi Navinsky Miller and husband Jason, Kelly Navinsky-Wenzl and husband Eugene, Brian Navinsky, Jessica, Lindsay and Angela Cook, Stephanie, Christopher and Terri Downs, and Brandon, Joshua and Justin Huber; and 1 great-grandchild: Adalynn Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Margaret, her husband Wayne, and 1 brother Carl.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church, Alma. Burial will follow in the Alma-Lutheran Cemetery. Edna will lie in-state beginning at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2010, at Stewart Funeral Home, Alma, with visitation from 6-8:00 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2010.
