Cora E. Ringel

November 12, 1916 — September 23, 2010

Cora Ethel Ringel, 93, passed away on September 23, 2010 at Alma Manor.  She was born November 12, 1916, the daughter of Leo Leonard and Kathleen (Richter) Leonard.  Cora attended Alma Grade School District No. 16, was confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Alma High School. Cora worked for Dr. Wertzberger (Dentist) before her marriage to Arnold Ringel in 1939. They lived on the Herman Ringel farm on Nehring Branch after Arnold’s parents retired to their home in Alma.  Cora & Arnie built a home in Alma and moved to town in 1955.  Cora was the secretary to Alma High School prior to becoming Secretary-Treasurer of Wabaunsee County for two terms. She then worked for the State of Kansas in the Property Valuation Department until retirement in 1981. Cora also helped originate the Wabaunsee Adult Transportation Service.   She remained active in the community after retirement.  She volunteered on a transportation committee to bring rides to the seniors.  Cora was secretary at the Wabaunsee County Historical Society & Museum from 1987 to 1997. She spent many hours working on Alma area genealogy and quilting with the ladies at the museum.   Cora was preceded in death by her husband Arnold who passed away in March 2000, and one brother, Woodrow Leonard. Cora is survived by Clark her son, daughter-in-law Donna, grandson Jason, granddaughter Cassandra Larsen and husband Rob and great-grandchildren Hayden and Iver Larsen, and several nieces and nephews.  Wayne & Nyla Leonard and Connie Evans were especially supportive in Cora’s well being over the years to her final moments. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church of Alma, with burial following in the church cemetery. Cora will lie in-state beginning at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, where family will greet friends during a visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wabaunsee County Historical Society, or St. John’s Lutheran Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, PO Box 126, 66401.
