St. Mary’s-Robert Leon Struble, 93, formerly of Belvue, died January 18, 2007 at St. Mary’s Manor in St. Mary’s Kansas.
Born on January 25, 1913, on the family farm in rural Belvue, he was the son of Elmo M. and Mary Frances (Gibbons) Struble. Robert lived in Belvue until deciding to join the United States Army. He proudly served his country for three years until his discharge in 1945, earning many awards including the Silver Star. He then lived in California were he met his wife Frankie Armstrong. The couple married in Yuma, Arizona on December 23, 1949 and made their home in Oklahoma soon after. Frankie preceded him in death on October 15, 1992 after nearly 43 years of marriage.
Robert is survived by: his two sons, Randy Struble and wife Suzi of Yukon, OK, and Gene Havens and wife Cheri of Oklahoma City, OK; his two daughters, Ruth Hammrich and husband Vern of Eufaula, OK, and Patty Rosenberg of Yukon, OK; his brother, Charles Struble of St. Mary’s, KS; his sister, Genieve Lassche of Long Beach, CA; his 7 grandchildren, Collin Rosenberg of Olathe, KS, Treavor Rosenberg and wife Beverly of Warr Acres, OK, Brian Owens and wife Diane of Council Bluffs, IA, Rodney Owens and wife Leith of Albuquerque, NM, Dawn O’Brien and husband Mike of Enid, OK, Robin Long and husband Ed of Enid, OK, and Sonja Hedden and husband Rob of Ramstein, Germany; his 12 great grandchildren, Chris and Lauren O’Brien, Josh, Niki, Japheth, Alaina, Ashlyn and Seth Owens, Brian and Bradley Hedden, and Markus Luetkemeyer; and his 2 great-great grandchildren, Camryn Emerson and Brody J. Moss.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Leonard Struble, two sisters, Helen Hosford and Gertrude Games, and a son-in-law Paul Rosenberg.
Funeral Services for Robert will be held Thursday January 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego with a visitation being held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Belvue Cemetery with Full Military Honors being presented. A memorial has been established in Robert’s name for St. Mary’s Manor and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
