Neill William Buie

Neill W. Buie, 75, of Wamego, passed away February 4, 2007 at his residence. He was born November 24, 1931 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Daniel H. and Thelma Rose (Newman) Buie. Neill graduated from Abilene High school in 1950. He later graduated for the University of Kansas with a degree in Business Administration. While at K.U., he was a member of the Phi Delta Gamma Fraternity. Before graduating from K.U., he served in the Army of Occupation in Germany for two years. Neill married Margaret Donnelly on September 8, 1956 in Lawrence, Kansas. Neill started his career with A.L. Duckwall Company upon graduating form K.U. and worked for them as a store manager in various cities for 33 years before retiring in 1992 from the Wamego store. He actively supported numerous community and business organizations, including serving as President of the Aggieville Merchant’s Association in Manhattan; various positions in the Wamego Chamber of Commerce; served 23 years on the Wamego Zoning Appeals Board; and recently was President of the Wamego Lion’s Club. He also served as a member of the following boards and committees: the Wamego Library Board, the Episcopal Church Board, the Wamego Senior Citizen’s Executive Board, and The Columbian Theatre Building Committee. Neill was also a member of the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Wamego. Neill was an avid gardener, loved to work with his hands painting and doing small carpentry jobs, and spent his retirement years supporting the Wamego Senior Citizen’s Center and traveling abroad. He is survived by: his wife Margaret of the home; his three daughters, Janet Bauman and husband Kevin of Eudora, KS, Wendy Todd and husband Allen of Manhattan, KS, Kim Buie of Nashville, TN; his twin sister Lenora Buie of Manhattan, KS; a brother Dan Buie of Wellesley Hills, MA; four grandchildren, Sarah Valencia, April Bauman, Claire and Coleman Todd; and two great grandchildren, William and Emily Phillips. Memorial services will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wamego, Friday February 9, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. The family will greet friends at a visitation on Thursday February 8, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego from 6:30-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Wamego Friends of the Park and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home P.O. Box 48, 66547.
