Harold A. Tanner, 90, of Westmoreland, KS, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Westmoreland Community Care Home.
Born on December 27, 1916 in Laclede,Ks., he was the son of Clarence A. and Clara McKowan Tanner. He attended Tannerville Country School, and then went to work on his family’s farm. He married Virginia Ilene Kellsy on Oct. 9, 1940 in Manhattan, Ks. She preceded him in death on July 5, 1996. He later married Anna Marie Zabel Taylor on June 8, 2002 in Westmoreland. She survives of the home.
He was a member of the Westmoreland Christian Church for over 50 years, was a board member of the Rock Creek Valley Historical Society, and served on the board of the Pottawatomie County Farm Bureau. He and his wife, Anna Marie, also volunteered every month at the Westy Community Care Home. Harold farmed and also worked as a carpenter for many years. He operated the road grader for the Rock Creek Township for many years and served as the Townships Treasurer for 25 years.
Harold is survived by: his wife, Anna Marie, of Westmoreland; his son, Clark Tanner, of Beaverton, Oregon; a daughter, Kay Smith, of Westmoreland; two step-sons, Neal Taylor, Westmoreland, Lewis Taylor, Hoyt, Ks.; one step-daughter, Jacquie Hulsey, of Warsaw, Mo.; one brother, Darrell Tanner, Larned, KS, two sisters, Dorothy Ann Judy, Hutchinson, Ks., and Betty Volz, Dodge City, Ks.; 3 grandchildren, and 9 step grand-children, 6 great grand-children and 12 step great grand-children. He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters, and one step-grandchild
A memorial has been established in Harold’s name for the Westmoreland Christian Church or Manhattan Christian College and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home.
