Wallace R. Carley
Wallace R. Carley, 83, of rural St. George, Ks, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
He was born August 12, 1923 near Louisville, Ks, the son of Richard and Vivian Younge Carley. He graduated from Wamego High School in 1941. He lived in Louisville until 1973, Wamego, Ks from 1973 until 1997, and most recently rural St. George.
He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He married Winifred Fouraker in 1948, they later divorced, and she preceded him in death. He married Beluah Pittenger in 1974, they later divorced.
Wallace enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He liked watching birds and built several birdhouses. He was a life-long K-State fan and went to every football game he could. Wallace was a very good dancer. He knew just about every type of dance and went dancing almost every weekend. Mostly, Wallace enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, and teaching them how to fish and clean their catch.
He was a member of the Wamego American Legion Harold Johnson Post, Manhattan VFW, the Oregon-California Trails Assoc. and Santa Fe Trails Assoc., a past member of Louisville Rod and Gun Club, Rubber Workers Union- Local 307, and was active in the Wamego Boy Scouts for several years.
Survivors include one son, Errol Carley, and his wife Yolanda, of Wamego; two brothers Russell Carley, Boise, Idaho and James Carley of Boise Idaho; two sisters, Georgia Becker, Manhattan, Ks, Ramona Newman, Oregon; three grandchildren, Jeff Carley, T.J. Carley and his wife Tammy, Yvonne Noe and husband Kipp, and one great-grandchild, Keagan Falk. He was also preceded in death by a sister Gwendolyn Caldwell, a brother, Neal Carley, a son Clinton Carley, and also by his long-time companion, Jeanette Suboter in 2005.
