Alexander “Alex” McKenzie, 74, of Wamego, KS, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene, KS, following a short illness.
Alex was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Alexander F. and Mary M. McClusky McKenzie. Following school, he worked in Canada for the Nova Chemical and Petroleum Company for 37 years until his retirement. On July 1, 2005, he married Jeanne L. Uhlrich at St. Bernard Catholic Church of Wamego. Jeanne preceded him in death in February of 2013.
Alex was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wamego, volunteering in many ways and teaching Sunday school. He enjoyed traveling and watching sports.
His survivors include his special friend, Nancy Grondin of Wamego; and his children, Angela, Beverly, and Craig, all of Canada, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Ian, and Elliot McKenzie.
A memorial service for Alex will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wamego, KS. Inurnment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 7th at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Wamego, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
