Anna Marie Taylor Tanner, 90, a life-long resident of Westmoreland, KS, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Westy Community Care Home.
She was born March 16, 1927 in Westmoreland, the daughter of John William and Nellie Edna (McClellan) Zabel. She attended the Star Union grade school and graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1944. She married Lewis L. Taylor on January 1, 1945 in Manhattan, KS, he preceded her in death in November of 1999. She later married Harold A. Tanner on June 8, 2002, and he passed away in 2007.
After her marriage to Lewis, they moved to San Francisco, CA, and worked at Western Union while he served in the military overseas. Following his military service, they moved back to the Westmoreland area. She worked in the Soil Conservation office for a few years before working in the grocery store in Westmoreland for many years until her retirement. She also worked for many years farming and operating the family farm with Lewis.
Anna Marie was very civic minded. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 186, Westmoreland Christian Church, the Moodyville Social Club, and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She loved to go fishing, gardening, was an avid reader, a great cook, and mostly loved to spend time with her grandkids.
Her survivors include: one daughter, Jacquie Hulsey (Gary), of Warsaw, MO, two sons: Neal Taylor (Vickie), of Westmoreland, KS, Lewis Taylor (Debbie), of Hoyt, KS; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Alvina Hause, 2 brothers: Wayne and Eldon Zabel; and 3 grandchildren, Nathan, Quentin, and Lindsey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in Westmoreland City Cemetery. The family will greet friends during a visitation Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Westy Community Fitness Center, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
