Barbara “Bobsy” Ann Eckart, 83, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Wamego. She was born February 27, 1936 in Wamego, the daughter of John F. and Kathryn Walsh Brockish, living most of her life in Wamego, except for 11 years in Colorado. Bobsy attended Wamego schools, graduating from Wamego High School in 1954.
Barb was united in marriage to the love of her life, Delbert Leo Eckart, on December 28, 1957, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. Delbert preceded her in death on May 3, 2002, exactly 17 years to Barb’s date of death. Barb was a homemaker and loving mother to her children. She was also an active volunteer in the community and served on the Wamego School Board of Education for several years. She retired from working at Kansas Farm Bureau after 15 years of service. She enjoyed being with her grandkids, reading, and made books of the family genealogy for each of her children.
She is survived by her four children: Chris Eckart, Wamego, KS, Judy Bowser of Novi, MI, David Eckart (Diane) of Manhattan, KS, Kellie Eckart of Euless, TX; four grandchildren: Joel (Marah), Nicholas, and Garrett Bowser, and Kara Eckart; her great-granddaughter Blake Bowser; and her nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Candace Eckart, a son in-law, Dan Bowser, and her only sister, Norma Saffell and her husband Butch Safell.
Bobsy will lie in-state Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 1:00 p.m., with family greeting friends during visitation from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, May 9th at 10:30 a.m., at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
