Betty Virginia Rollenhagen

April 3, 1929 — January 19, 2018

Betty Virginia (Cutright) Rollenhagen, 88, Westmoreland, KS passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Westy Community Care Home.

On April 3, 1929, Betty was born to Virgil and Ardie (Taylor) Cutright, Sr. at their family farm northeast of Wamego, KS.  She attended Lines and Broderick Grade Schools and Wamego High School.  She was united in marriage with Clinton Earl Rollenhagen on September 4, 1946 in Onaga, KS.  He preceded her in death on December 7, 2012.

Betty loved her family above all things.  She enjoyed their fixing clothes, as well as spending every minute she could with them.  She also enjoyed growing flowers, helping others and even carpentry work.  She and Clinton squared danced often with many friends at the ‘Westy Squares’ and traveled to other square dancing clubs in their younger years.  They also helped found the Lucky Leven 4-H Club where they served as leaders for several years.  Betty was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wheaton and later, Onaga.

Betty worked as a farm wife before becoming a seamstress for Slimaker Sewing Factory in Onaga for 11 years.  She then worked for Onaga Meat Processing that her son, Larry, owned, for 14 years.  After her retirement, Betty did janitorial services and garment alterations.

She is survived by her two children, Larry Earl Rollenhagen, Onaga, KS, and Kathryn S. Murray (Bob), Wheaton, KS; a brother, Virgil Cutright, Jr., Angleton, TX; six grandchildren, Jon Rollenhagen (Susan), Tim Rollenhagen (Kim), Jamie Ringel (Ed), Michael Rollenhagen (Amanda), Kara Murray, and J.D. Murray (Dana); and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Harold, Raymond, Ben, and Arvid Cutright; three sisters, Jean Brunkow, Doris Lewis, and Jacquelin McFarland; two grandsons, Mark and David Rollenhagen; and a daughter-in-law, Laurel Rollenhagen.

Funeral Service for Betty will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego.  Burial will follow in the Westmoreland City Cemetery.  Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Betty Rollenhagen Memorial Fund to be designated at a later time, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
