Carl "Bud" Dewey Hoffsett, Jr.

Carl Dewey “Bud” Hoffsett, Jr., 96, of Wamego, Kansas, died Monday, December 11, 2023, at Vintage Park Assisted Living.  He was a long-time member of the community.

Bud was born February 16, 1927, in Wamego, the son of Carl and Sylvia (Heston) Hoffsett, Sr.  He attended Wamego grade school and graduated from Wamego High School in 1945.  Immediately after High School, Bud was drafted in the United States Army.  He served with President Harry S. Truman’s Honor Guard for two years in Washington, D.C.  He then re-enlisted and served as a military policeman in China.

Following his military service, Bud came home to Kansas, he worked in Wamego as a school bus driver. In 1951, he moved to California to seek better employment. He worked as the Warehouse Supervisor for A.M. Lewis, Inc., a wholesale grocery company in Riverside, California.  He retired after thirty-three years.  Bud then moved to Missouri and eventually returned to Wamego.

Bud loved to do woodworking and was quite an artist.  He also loved to draw and paint.  Bud had many artistic talents, including knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint.  He was always busy tinkering with some sort of project.

Bud married Ada Carney on December 19, 1959, in Imperial, California, and together they shared two daughters. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1989.  Bud then reconnected with an old High School sweetheart and on June 28, 1990, he married Alice Loretta Yocum.  She also preceded him in death on March 18, 2016.

Bud is survived by his daughters, Vicki Todd (Patrick), Scottsdale, Arizona, and Carla Gordon (Curtis), Riverside, California; his four grandchildren, Craig Gordon, Lake Jackson, Texas, Lisa Baker, Phoenix, Arizona, Christi Todd and Jennifer Todd, both of Scottsdale, Arizona; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A private family inurnment will be held in Wamego City Cemetery.  The family suggests memorial contributions to either Wamego Honor Flight or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at www.campanellastewart.com.
