Carlos G. Cuevas, 88, of Manhattan, Kansas, formerly of Overland Park, died Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at his home. He had been a long-time resident of Overland Park until a year ago when he moved to Manhattan to be closer to his family.
Carlos was born on February 14, 1933, in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Carlos worked as a Civil Engineer for many years and retired at Black and Veatch, Kansas City’s largest engineering firm. He was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park. Carlos loved hunting and fishing and being outdoors.
Carlos married Maria Elena Castro on November 21, 1954, in Guadalajara. After sixty-seven years of marriage, she survives at their home.
Carlos is also survived by his children; Carlos Cuevas (Ann), Polo, Missouri, Shane Cuevas (Sarah), Stillwell, Hugo Cuevas, Overland Park, Walt Cuevas, Manhattan; his two siblings; his eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 2, 2021, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego. Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. A rosary prayer service will be held at 10:30 am. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice, and those may be sent in care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home.
