Carol J. Baker, 81, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Friday (January 6, 2023) at Good Samaritan Society in Wamego.
Born August 15, 1941 in Hutchinson, Kansas, Carol was the daughter of Charles Ray and Marrian Virginia (Robertson) Craig.
Carol had been employed at Hartman’s Foundry in Hutchinson until she began her career as a Telephone Lineperson with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Carol was the first female in Kansas to climb the poles as a lineperson. She retired after 19 years due to health concerns.
An avid reader, Carol also enjoyed making miniature dollhouses. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved the time she shared with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Baker and Mark Baker both of Wamego, KS; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles R. “Chuck” Craig (Marilee) of Seattle, WA and Chris L. Craig of Tacoma, WA; a sister, Lue Anne Cochran (Jim) of Hutchinson, KS; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dondi Lynn Baker; a grandson, Charles Thomas Bender; and a brother, Kelly R. Craig.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Services will be private.
