Clayton "Swede" James Anderson

Clayton James “Swede” Anderson, 83, of Alma, Kansas, died Sunday, December 5, 2021, in Topeka. He was a life-long resident of the area.

Swede was born on May 29, 1938, in Council Grove, Kansas, the son of Clayton R. and Emma (Hawthorne) Anderson. Swede attended schools in Alma and graduated from Alma High School in 1956. He joined the United States Army Reserves.

Swede worked his entire 41-year career as an Engineering Technician for the Kansas Department of Transportation.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma. Swede loved being out on a lake and lived several years at Lake Wabaunsee. He had a very astute intellect and was an avid reader and enjoyed doing day trades on the stock market. He also enjoyed time with his family.

Swede married Sharon Ann Hoffman on November 23, 1968, in Topeka. They later divorced. He then married Linda Sue Berroth on January 8, 1999, at Newbury. She preceded him in death on November 24, 2008.

Swede is survived by his children; Troy Anderson, Chanute, and James Anderson (Mary), Overland Park; daughter-in-law, Christie Anderson; his siblings, Terry Geisler, Alma, Gilda Lintz (Ron), Topeka, Theola Boeckman, St. Marys, and Rodney Geisler (Dorothy), Topeka; his grandchildren, Amber, Mitch, Nathan, Taci, Derek, Dillon, Nikki, Justin, Shawna, Steven, Edwin, Rosemary, Larry, Madison, Allie, and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-children, Monique Angel (Jerry), Olathe, and Tyson Barnes, Yuma, Arizonia, Swede was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Brenda Anderson and a son, Cap Anderson, and a grandson, Ryan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, December 10, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newbury. Father Swamy Nannam will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends at a visitation on Thursday, at the church, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. They suggest memorial contributions to Midland Hospice, and those may be sent in care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.campanellastewart.com.
