Constance "Connie" Louise Menhusen

  Connie Menhusen, 79, Wamego, KS passed away peacefully Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Stonybrook Assisted Living in Manhattan, KS.   On April 6, 1938 Connie was born to Everett and Edith (Hankison) Braden in Glen Elder, KS.  Raised by her mother and stepfather, Lawrence Lowdermilk, she attended Glen Elder schools and graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1956.  She was united in marriage to Albert Joseph Menhusen on April 6, 1958 at the Glen Elder Methodist Church.  Albert survives of the home.   Connie worked as a nurse’s aide at the Beloit Community Hospital, Genn Hospital, and the Wamego City Hospital, as well as working for E.W. Christman, M.D.  She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Pottawatomie County Rural Water District #1 for 15 years.  In 1982, Connie was named the Kansas State Bookkeeper of the Year for Water Districts and she was very proud of that honor.   Connie was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, bible study, and was the Methodist Youth Fellowship Leader for many years.  She also served as the treasurer and chairman of the church board.  She was a member of the Wamego Senior Center, 4H cooking leader for years, and the Wamego American Legion Auxiliary where she served as President of the Past Presidents Parley.   She enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, and was an avid bingo player.  Connie is also known as being the #1 fan of Kansas Jayhawk basketball.   She is also survived by her two daughters: Angela Knackstedt (Scott), Lenexa, KS, and Tamara Kenagy (Robert, M.D.), Topeka, KS; and four grandchildren: Joseph Knackstedt (Kim), Rebekah Knackstedt, Hannah Kenagy, and Rachel Williams (Luke).   She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Patricia Ritchey; and three brothers: James Braden, Richard Braden, and Robert Lowdermilk.   Memorial services for Connie will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego.  Friends and family are welcome to visit Albert and Connie’s home on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Louisville Methodist Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.   The family would like to thank all of the health professionals that helped Connie over the years and extend a special thank you to the late Dr. William Braden.
