Darlene Sarah Biedenbender, 81, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Wamego, following a short illness.

  Darlene was born December 16, 1937, at her family’s farm home near St. George, Kansas, the daughter of Arvle D. ”Beanie” Howard and Mary E. (O’Neill) Howard. She attended St. George schools and graduated from St. George High School. Shortly after graduating, she was united in marriage with Donald W. Biedenbender on October 1, 1955 in Wamego.  He preceded her in death April 7, 1985.

  Darlene was a loving homemaker and wife to her family, and she worked for 10 years as a para-educator for U.S.D. 383 schools in Manhattan. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Wamego, where she was very active in church groups such as AWANA. She loved her dogs, her farm on Lewis Wilson Road, enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband, and playing cards.

  Her survivors include two daughter: Kay Pittenger, and Sandra Temple (Larry), all of Wamego, KS; one son, Dan Biedenbender (Meloni), Westmoreland, KS; two sisters: Mary Gardner (Don), of Louisville, KS, Virginia Roberts (Larry), St. George, KS; 10 grandchildren: Sarah, Steven, Scott, Lydia, Paul, David, Saige, Shae, Sadie, Donald James “DJ”; 6 great-grandchildren; and a special friend to her, Kenneth Piper. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arvle “Sonny” Howard, and two children: Donald W. Biedenbender, Jr., and Mary Lee Biedenbender.

  Funeral services for Darlene will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego.  Burial will follow in Wamego City Cemetery. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6^th at the funeral home.   The family has suggested memorials to the First United Methodist Church AWANA, and may be left in the care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
