David Lee Frey, 81, of Wamego, Kansas and formerly of Manhattan, passed away October 25, 2017 following a lengthy illness. David was born February 5, 1936 in Manhattan, KS, the son of Donald and Gale McAninch Frey. He was raised in Riley, Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University with a Masters degree in Music Education. He worked mostly as a Financial Planner for American Express of Manhattan for many years. He was very active in the community, serving on the board of directors of Pawnee Mental Health in Manhattan and the Columbian Theatre of Wamego. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and the Topeka Arab Shrine Temple. David’s favorite instrument was his trumpet. He played in the Matt Benton Jazz Band for many years and also the Arab Temple Band. He also served as the Band Director of Manhattan High School for several years. He married Patricia Gale Stowe Rogers on February 22, 1979 in Wamego. She survives of the home. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Pat, and loved being around water. Staying at their lake cabin was one of his favorite things to do. He was always a staunch supporter of KSU sports and also the McCain and Columbian Theatres. Time with his grandchildren was always cherished. Survivors include his wife Pat, of Wamego; two daughters, Gelene Tabor (Dan), Niagara Falls, NY, Jennifer Frey, Appling, GA; three step-children, Dr. Rodd Rogers (Angela), Kansas City, MO, Tyra Sandoval (Gene), Colorado Springs CO, Darcee Farrell, Olathe, KS.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna DeCou. Funeral services for David will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Wamego with the Rev. Casey Rohleder officiating. Burial will follow in Wamego City Cemetery. The family will greet friends during a visitation Monday from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego.
