Debra Jo Thierer

  Debra Jo Thierer, 58, of Alma, KS passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.   On November 6, 1959, Debra, was born to Phillip and JoAnn (Moss) Land in Topeka, KS.  After graduating from Marysville High School, Debra attended Kansas State University where she received a Master’s Degree in Education.  She worked as a Special Education Teacher in Sabetha and area schools including Wamego, Rock Creek and Wabaunsee for over 30 years. She was united in marriage with Larry Gean Thierer on May 18, 1985 at the Alma United Methodist Church.  He survives of the home.   Debra was a member of the Alma United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, working with children and watching animals.    She is also survived by her mother, a sister, Brenda Wainwright (Dean), and a niece, Amber Wainwright, all of Wichita, KS.   She is preceded in death by her father.   Funeral service for Debra will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Alma United Methodist Church in Alma, KS. Burial will follow in the Alma City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the animal humane society or shelter of donor's choice, the Salvation Army, St. Jude's Research Hospital, or UNICEF, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, PO Box 126, Alma, KS 66401.
