Donald "Grizz" D. Delehoy, 79, of Wamego, Kansas and formerly of Ft. Collins, Colorado, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.
He was born May 1, 1938 in Ft. Collins, the son of Glenn and Emma Schelt Delehoy. He attended schools in La Porte, CO and graduated from Cache LaPoudre High School in 1956. Following graduation, he entered into the U.S. Navy, serving four years. After returning from his Naval service, he began working in construction for over 32 years, first with Flat Iron Construction Company and then with Western Mobil until partial retirement. He followed his construction career by working as a custodian at Poudre school district for 10 years until he fully retired.
Don was previously married and then divorced before his marriage to Catherine Teresa Vuksic Baker on October 22, 1988 in Ft. Collins. She survives of the home. He loved to go camping, fishing, and was very talented at woodworking, making many things for his family with his hands. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine of Wamego; two children from his first marriage: Dan (Kris) Delehoy of Ft. Collins, CO and Lousenda Stillman of California; two step-daughters: Teresa Lynn (John) Osarczuk of Manhattan, KS, Debrah Sue (Fred) Perez of California; one brother, Delbert (Donna) Delehoy of Ft. Collins, CO; a sister, Betty Everitt of Ft. Collins, CO; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Glenn Delehoy.
The family will greet friends during a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 20th from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. A memorial service will also be held at a later date in Ft. Collins, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the charity or organization of donor’s choice.
