Donald Roberts, 74, of Alma and Wamego, KS, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018.
Don was born December 17, 1943 in Manchester, KY, the son of Dewey and Mittie Bowling Roberts. He attended several schools in Ohio and graduated from high school in Monroe, OH.
Following high school, he started his career as a journeyman wireman-electrician for 44 years until retiring due to health reasons. Don married Donna Chester in 1963, they divorced, and married Susan Richardson in 1984, they later divorced.
Don was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – local 226 Topeka since 1962. He was also a past member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was given the nickname “Cowboy” for being known as a good hand with a horse. He enjoyed raising, training, and riding rodeo with his horses. He also had a reputation for being very careful in making sure his electrical work was done perfectly. He enjoyed his work and traveled all over the U.S. on job sites.
His survivors include three daughters: Kelly Roberts, of rural Wabaunsee County, Tricia Stanbro, Guthrie, OK, and Tracy of Drumright, OK. a sister, Maxine Crawford , St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ruphard, Thayer, Cecil, and two sisters, Ruby Bailey and Phyllis Simpkins of Middletown, OH.
Family will greet friends during a visitation Thursday, November 29th from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Mr. Roberts will lie in-state Thursday at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. A private graveside service and burial will be held Friday at Hinerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society-Valley Vista and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
