Doris Strifler, 94, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the Wamego Health Center.
Born December 21, 1927 in Glarus, Switzerland, Doris was the daughter of Josef and Anna (Steiger) Ladstetter. She married Dannie E. Strifler on July 15, 1952 in Heidelberg, Germany. Doris moved frequently as her husband was in the military until he retired in California; Ultimately they returned to Kansas in 1993.
Doris was raised Catholic but practiced as a Methodist for much of her life. Starting as a young mother she became a fierce advocate for children and the disabled. She was an avid reader and music lover, and quite political; Doris believed in the power of the vote and that one person could make a difference. She enjoyed meeting with her closest friends at their weekly kaffeeklatsch.
Doris dearly loved her family and was happiest spending time with them.
Doris was employed by Disneyland Hotel for ten years, a job that allowed her to stretch her creativity and engage her festive spirit. She also enjoyed, and was skilled at, investing in the stock market.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Young of Wamego, Christel Strifler of Manhattan, and Jane Strifler of Wamego; three grandchildren, Andrew Young (Christine) of Salina, Christopher Young, and Matthew Young both of Wamego; two great-grandchildren, Luke Alexander Young and Peter Daniel Young of Salina; a sister, Christel Hannah Kusch of San Clemente, California; and many nieces and nephews both here and in Germany.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dannie on October 30, 2011; two brothers, Dr. Josef Ladsteetter and Ronald Ladstetter Sr.; and a sister, Hilda Calderwood.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Entombment will be in Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley.
A celebration of life for Doris will be held Sunday afternoon July 24, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Wamego Senior and Community Center. Friends and family are invited to attend.
