Douglas "Doug" Eldon Woods

  Douglas Eldon Woods, 67, of Manhattan, KS passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

  On November 26, 1950 Doug was born to Francis and Idell (Huddleston) Woods in Pueblo, CO.  Doug graduated from Keyes High School in Keyes, OK in 1968 and would receive a bachelor’s degree from Panhandle State University.  He taught various social studies classes for Elkhart High School from 1975-2007, Riley County High School from 2007-2008, and Flint Hills Christian School from 2008-2015 when he retired.  He was united in marriage with Elizabeth “Liz” Newman on August 14, 1971 in Elkhart, KS.  She survives of the home.

  Doug enjoyed several hobbies including woodworking, fishing and hunting.  He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved dogs.  While teaching, Doug also coached football, basketball and track and loved history.

  He is also survived by three daughters, Mindi Sturm (Brian), Mandi Barnes (Jared), and Misti Reid (Pete), all of Manhattan, KS; a brother, David Woods (Sheryl), Ft. Worth, TX; father and mother-in-law, John and Opal Newman, Canon City, CO; eleven grandchildren, Abbie, Caleb, Elijah, Mason, Emma, Jacob, McKenzie, Cooper, Ezekiel, Malachi and Calli; two sister-in-laws, Cindy Schutte, Canon City, CO, and Milana (Randy) Root Colorado Springs, CO; beloved canine, Snickers; and several nieces and nephews.

  He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Linda Kinzer (Fred).

  Memorial service for Doug will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Manhattan, KS.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Flint Hills Christian School, Good Shepherd Hospice House, and the Making Room Campaign for youth ministries at the church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
