View Memorial Slideshow Eleanor Louise Johnson, 92, Wamego, KS passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Wamego Health Center. On September 28, 1925, Eleanor, was born to Ernest and Myrtle (Bowman) Schleif in rural Wabaunsee County, KS. Eleanor attended District #33 Wabaunsee County grade school before graduating from Wamego High School in 1948. She was united in marriage with Robert Arthur Johnson on October 1, 1950 at the Wells Creek Church near Belvue, KS. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2005. Along with working from the home, Eleanor worked as an aide at Central Elementary, and then at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Society from 1978-1988. She was a longtime member of the Wamego First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women’s Group. She also served as a past president for the American Legion Auxiliary and worked as a leader for many years in the Girl Scouts organization. Eleanor loved her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Catie, and her companion, Daisey. She enjoyed gardening, puzzles, sewing, and in her later years, taking car rides with family. She is survived by her two daughters, Roberta Robinson (Steven), Olathe, KS, and Janie Rankin (Jeff), Wamego, KS; a sister, Beatrice Zobel (Ronnie), MT. Clemens, MI; a granddaughter, Catie Sander (Dawson), Wamego, KS; and a great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Sander. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Schleif, and a sister, Anna Marie Valdez. Funeral service for Eleanor will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. Eleanor will lie in-state Friday, April 20th from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. with visitation to follow from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Wamego Friends of the Park, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
