Huann Braden

 Elizabeth Huann Braden, 86, of Topeka, formerly of Wamego, passed away on Saturday (July 27, 2024) at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

  Born to Hugh William Armstrong and Elaine McPherson Armstrong in the home in Altamont, Kansas on June 4th, 1938. Huann grew up with two sisters; Marlene and Nancy and her brother, Bryan. She lived in multiple towns throughout her childhood after Altamont, moving to Los Angeles, California, Rupert, Idaho and went to three different high schools; Burlington, Kansas High school her freshman year, Labette County Community High School in Altamont and graduated from Lincoln, Kansas High School in 1956. She enjoyed high school, especially at Labette County and played drums in the band, orchestra and jazz band, sang in the mixed chorus, girl's glee and girl's sextet, participated in theater, copublisher of the school paper and enjoyed science and nursing classes.

  Huann went on to nursing school at Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas from 1956 - 1959. She was the Class President her freshman year, Student Council President, her junior year and graduated with honors as a Registered Nurse. Her first job was as a nurse at Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri in pediatrics. In 1960 she became a psychiatric patient/family liaison at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas where she met her future husband, Billy Lee Braden, where he was doing his medical doctor internship. They married and moved to Wamego, Kansas in 1960. They had three sons; Stuart Gregory (Ann) Braden, born on November 26, 1961, Lance Douglas Braden, born on November 17th, 1962 and Christopher Armstrong (Anna) Braden, born May12th, 1966.

  Huann helped in Bill's medical practice. She also worked at the Kansas Neurological Society from 1972 - 1974, ran a art studio and consignment shop from 1974 - 1976, the Wamego City Hospital from 1976 - 1978, Dr. Braden's medical clinic from 1978 - 1989, Parkview Rehabilitation Hospital from 1989 - 1997 where she was the clinical director of the day hospital, ran her catering business, the Flaky Gourmet from 1997 - 2003 and worked at Community Health Ministries from 2003 - 2005 when she retired to take care of Bill.

  Huann was a member of multiple organizations including being past president of the Wamego Hospital Auxiliary, past member of PEO, charter member of Wamego Community Hospice, past member of Midland Hospice of Manhattan, Kansas, past member of the City of Wamego Chamber of Commerce, Meals on Wheels, Kiwanis Club of Topeka, Kansas, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Board Member, Topeka Department on Aging and Northeast Kansas Hospital Case Managers.

  She also had many hobbies including cooking and baking, gardening, painting and drawing, entertaining and singing.

  Huann was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Elaine Armstrong, her husband Dr. Bill Braden, her son Lance Braden, her brother Bryan Armstrong, her sisters Marlene Richardson and Nancy Pieschl.

  She is survived by her sister-in-law Claudia Armstrong, her son Stuart Braden and his wife Ann and their children Elizabeth and Collin and her son Chris Braden and his wife Anna and their daughter Kinsley.

  Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Services will be announced at a later date.
