Eugene Charles Prockish, 90, of Louisville passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Wamego Health Center surrounded by his family after an extended battle with cancer. Eugene was born August 4, 1927, the son of Leo and Gertrude (Krouse) Prockish. He was the oldest of 8 children. He was united in marriage to Jean Marie Bates on June 6, 1951 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. She preceded him in death. They shared over 55 years together and were the parents of 5 children. Eugene was the founder of Prockish Trucking and Excavating in 1951 and served as CEO until his death. Even at the age of 90 he insisted on being a part of the daily operations. Mr. Prockish served as councilman for the City of Louisville for over 40 years. He was ornery, had a keen sense of humor and was always the life of the party. He loved to dance, had a contagious laugh, a big heart, loved his family and all the family gatherings. Survivors include his two sons Steve Prockish and wife Des, and David Prockish and wife Connie all of Louisville, KS; three daughters Linda Prockish of Manhattan, KS, Marilyn Hazen and husband Gwynn of Frankfort, KS, and Brenda Whearty and husband Les of Wamego, KS; his seven grandchildren, Misty and Chris Pratt of Wellsville, KS, Brandon and Cyndee Washington of Topeka, KS, Meghan and Dennis Kearn of Wamego, KS, Travis Prockish of Louisville, KS, Greg Hazen of Frankfort, KS Chelsea Prockish of Louisville, KS, and Darren Prockish of Louisville, KS; his seven great-grand children, Rylee and Ashlyn Pratt, Brooke Prockish, Kaelee and Kenna Washington, and Kaden and Emma Kearn; his two brothers, Vernon Prockish of Westmoreland, KS and Delbert Prockish of Wamego, KS, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his siblings Marjorie, Kenneth, Marcella, Delores and an infant brother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, KS. Burial will follow in the St. Bernard Cemetery. Eugene will lie in-state starting at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. A rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. As per Eugene’s wishes, the casket will remained closed for viewing hours. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the St. Bernard Building Fund, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
